After going to see Infinity War on Friday, I can say now that my mind has been blown. This movie left us with a crazy cliffhanger, which I will go into a little later. This will be a rough reaction/review of the movie. (SPOILERS INCOMING)
Infinity War, while focusing on the Avengers, almost would’ve been a better fit if it was a Thanos biopic. In the Part 1 blog, I told you all about Thanos being an “Eternal-Deviant Hybrid” being, which basically means he is a super powerful mutant being, loosely related to humans. I’ve watched numerous videos on YouTube since the movie and learned much more about Thanos since the movie. He has been a character since the issue of The Invincible Iron Man #55 release February 1973. His character is much more of a classic villain in the comics, an individual trying to destroy the universe. This is sort of his goal in Infinity War, wiping out half of the universe as opposed to the entire universe.
In the comic books, Thanos has an obsessive relationship with the female personification of Death. He wants to destroy the universe to impress her and win over her love. The movie has an interesting twist on some of Thanos’ relationships. The film gives us a lot of character development of Thanos, showing that he does have compassion for his adopted green daughter, Gamora. Thanos and Gamora are searching for the Soul Infinity Stone when they encounter “Death”, which makes for a good callback to Thanos’ comic history. My favorite part of Thanos was that even though he is perceived as the Avenger’s ultimate villain, his actions are rational. Although I don’t personally agree with wiping out half of life in the universe, his reasoning was that the universe was becoming over-populated.
For the movie as a whole, I think this might be the best Marvel Universe movie to date. It incorporates many of the heroes we have seen in movies over the past 10 years. My personal favorite hero performances were Spiderman, Dr. Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. There are plenty of other heroes that also have shining moments, such as Thor, who is arguably the most powerful hero. There is much more to say about this film, but to keep this short, I thought they utilized the heroes well, gave Thanos great character development, and created heart-wrenching scenes. Can’t wait for Avengers 4 next May.
